Easy Juicing for Beginners | Recover Faster, Feel Better
Hey there juicing newbies! Welcome to the wonderful world of turning fruits and veggies into liquid goodness.
I’m so excited you want to explore juicing! It’s one of my favorite ways to get a mega-dose of nutrients into my body, fast.
Juicing is all about extracting the yummy juices from fresh produce while leaving that pesky fiber behind. This makes all those vitamins, minerals and antioxidants way easier to absorb.
Pretty nifty, right?
Some awesome benefits of juicing include energizing your bod, improving digestion, trimming down, and boosting immunity. Juicing lets you take in a lot more fruits and veggies at once since you skip the chewing and head right to the nutrients.
Overall, juicing can be an amazing addition to a healthy lifestyle when done in moderation. Let’s dive into everything you need to know as a juicing beginner.
I’ll walk you through the basics – from choosing a juicer to avoiding any pitfalls. Grab a notebook and a green juice, and let’s get juicing!
Get Your Juice On: Pick the Perfect Juicer
Alright, first things first – you gotta get yourself a juicer! No juicer, no juice – it’s as simple as that.
I know browsing all the machines out there can make your head spin. Here’s a little 101 on the main juicer styles and what makes each one shine:
Centrifugal Juicers are super fast and very budget-friendly. We’re talking juicing your morning OJ in seconds! They grind up produce using a fast spinning metal blade that presses the juice out.
Downsides are they can heat up the juice, reducing some nutrients, and aren’t great with leafy greens. But for carrot apple juice on the daily, these are your besties.
Masticating Juicers use an auger to squeeze every last drop out. Way quieter and gentler than centrifugals. They really get greens like kale juicing like a pro.
The juice lasts longer with less oxidation too. But they take more time and cash to operate. If you’ve got the time and budget, these are clutch.
Triturating Juicers are the powerhouses. They use twin gears to grind and press produce, extracting the most juice and nutrition possible.
Ideal for leafy greens and minimal oxidation. But the highest yield comes with the highest price tag and slowest speed. Worth the splurge for juicing devotees!
Depends on your lifestyle and goals, but centrifugals can be a good starter juicer on a budget.
Test drive some at the store to see what clicks! And don’t worry, we’ve got juice recipe ideas coming up next.
Pick the Best Produce for Nutritious Juices
When it comes to making healthy, yummy juices, we gotta start with the right main ingredients – fruits and veggies!
Here are some of my fave juicing superstars:
Leafy Greens like spinach, kale and collards pack a major nutritional punch. We’re talking vitamins, minerals, antioxidants out the wazoo. They deserve a starring role in your juices.
Citrus Fruits like orange, grapefruit, lemon and lime provide a blast of vitamin C to boost immunity. They also aid detoxifying. But beware, too much can erode tooth enamel. Use in moderation.
Carrots and Apples are sweet juicing staples. Carrots provide vitamin A and apples add flavor plus fiber. They balance out strong flavors from veggies.
Beets have awesome phytonutrients that reduce inflammation and support detoxing. But heads up – they will make your juice pink!
Ginger and Turmeric are amazing anti-inflammatory superfoods I love adding in. Their powerful compounds really boost the health factor.
Have fun playing with different combos and rotating greens. Always go more veggies than fruit, and organic is best when you can swing it.
With the right produce, you’ll be juicing up health-filled nectar in no time!
Don’t OD on Juice Cleanses
Listen, I’m all about juices giving your bod a healthy reboot. But I gotta keep it real with you on longggg juice cleanses.
More than a few days can take you to not-so-fun town. Here’s why:
No Protein or Fiber – Juice lacks the hearty protein and fiber in whole foods that keep you energized and full. Long cleanses lead to crankiness, fatigue, and even muscle loss from dropping calories. Not cute.
Blood Sugar Spikes – With no fiber to slow absorption, the natural sugars in juice spike your blood sugar fast then lead to a crash. Cue the headaches, hunger pangs, and hanger (hungry anger).
Medical Risks – Don’t mess around with cleanses over 3-5 days without your doc’s input. Dizziness, nausea and even kidney issues can happen when your body is deprived too long.
If you wanna reset with a 1-3 day cleanse, go for it. But steer clear of juicing only for weeks on end – bad idea. Instead, keep it sustainable with juices as a sidekick to balanced meals. You got this!
